Thousands of devout Christians attended solemn Christmas services at Lembah Pujian (the valley of praise) Bethel Indonesia Rock Church in Denpasar on the bright, sunny morning of Dec. 25. Heavily guarded by hundreds of security personnel, the three Christmas services were packed by no less than 11,000 churchgoers. The service was opened with a series of melodious gospel songs praising Jesus Christ and the glory of the Lord.
The priest, Timotius Arifin Tedjasukmana, said in his Christmas sermon that family was the most significant gift God had given to the people of the world. “It is the most precious Christmas gift for us all,” the priest said. “A house can be a heaven or a hell, if God is willing to create that for us,” he said. This year’s Christmas theme at the church called on people to feel the blessings, gratitude and happiness Christmas brought to them. The Christmas service was highlighted by traditional and modern music and dance performances.
