Prominent film producer Mira Lesmana says that she is currently trying to collect money in order to screen her latest film Atambua 39 Degrees Celsius in cities in East Nusa Tenggara and Timor Leste. She listed Dili and Kupang as two possible cities for film screenings. “But we don’t have enough money to do that. It’s just the same problem again and again, really,” she said, adding that she would need approximately Rp 150 million (US$15,300) to screen the film in 10 cities.
She said that she recently showed the film in Atambua in East Nusa Tenggara, where the film was shot, to an overwhelmingly positive response. “[The screening in Atambua] was so awesome. It was a must for me to screen the film there because so many of the city’s residents were involved in its making,” said the 48-year-old producer. The film, directed by critically acclaimed director Riri Riza, premiered at the Tokyo International Film Festival in late 2012 and was released in theaters shortly thereafter. Riri and Mira are now preparing to screen the film at the Rotterdam Film Festival.
