0 Police vow impartiality during elections

National Police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo vowed on Wednesday that the police would remain neutral in safeguarding the elections. The National Police, the Attorney General’s Office (AGO), the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Committee(Bawaslu) signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at ensuring that the upcoming elections would be free and fair.

“The police will remain professional, neutral and free from the influence of any party to make sure the elections are organized and democratic,” he said. The KPU has announced that 10 political parties would participate in the 2014 elections, with the National Democrat (NasDem) Party being the only new participant. Timur said that the police were bracing themselves for security threats arising from disputes over electoral rolls, counterfeit ballots and other election violations.
