0 President’s son resigns from House to save party

Democratic Party lawmaker Edhie Bhaskoro “Ibas” Yudhoyono has resigned as a legislator in the House of Representatives. Ibas, the son of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, announced his resignation on Thursday, only two days after he was caught on camera skipping a House plenary meeting after he signed the attendance list required for lawmakers.

“I hereby declare my resignation as a lawmaker to focus all of my time and energy on the Democratic Party, ” Ibas told a press conference at the party’s offices at the House. “There’s no no way that I can carry out my duty as a lawmaker while at the same time serving as the secretary-general of the Democratic Party.” “I hope that I can save the Democratic Party from sinking ahead of the 2014 elections.

Please support me in your prayers,” he said. According to speculation, Yudhoyono may want to tip Ibas to take over as Democratic Party chairman following the implication Anas Urbaningrum, in the Hambalang graft scandal. Yudhoyono, chief of the Democratic Party’s patron board, has temporarily taken over as chairman. (ebf)
