Representatives from 10 political parties signed up to a peace accord on Friday at the office of the Bali Regional Elections Commission (KPUD). The signing was also attended by representatives from the Elections Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu), Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) and the Bali Police.
“This pact reflects our commitment to maintain security, public order and cleanliness during the whole election process in this island,” KPUD head Ketut Sukawati Lanang Perbawa said as quoted by Antara news agency. All the major political parties, including the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), the Golkar Party, the Democratic Party, the National Mandate Party (PAN), and the Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party, participated in the event.
The six-point accord deals with various issues that in the past have triggered conflict between supporters of the various political parties, including the installation of party banners and billboards. “The installation of such outdoor campaign tools will be limited to designated zones decided by the respective regional administrations.”
