Air Force chief Marshall Ida Bagus Putu Dunia said that air security in Bali will be tightened in anticipation of next year’s high profile conferences. Upon arrival at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Tuban on Thursday afternoon, “The Air Force is ready to deploy its fleet and troops to ensure the island’s security during the upcoming Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation [APEC] Summit in November 2013,” the air force chief confirmed.
A native of Tabanan, Putu Dunia will be spending the year-end holidays at home in Kediri, Tabanan to pay respect to his family and ancestors. Putu Dunia appointed Air Force chief on Dec. 17, he is the first Balinese to hold the highly-coveted post. Dunia is one of several senior-ranking Balinese officers viewed as the rising stars of the country’s military ranks. They include the current Udayana Military Command chief Maj. Gen. Wisnu Bawa Tenaya and Papua’s Cendrawasih Military Command’s chief of staff Brig. Gen. Made Agra Sudiantara.
The former was tipped to be the next commander of the Army’s 27,000-strong elite reserve command Kostrad while the latter will be on the fast track to the Army’s central command if he survives volatile Papua intact.
