The establishment of Batuan Art Museum has inspired the spirit of local artists to revive their creativity. The village is known for its Batuan-style paintings, which have attracted the attention of many collectors. “Many collectors now search for Batuan-style paintings. It’s always been a best-selling painting style,” said museum chief Dewa Gede Gautama, as quoted by metrobali.com.
This has encouraged local painters to again take up their brushes. “This museum has revived their spirit and creativity,” he said. Besides being famous for its paintings, the village is also the center of mask and barong makers. Dewa Gede Sahadewa, the museum’s founder, said the museum was established to preserve arts in the village and as a center to display local artwork. He said the museum has 400 Batuan-style paintings in its collection, including works by the late Ida Bagus Dupem and I Wayan Taweng, I Ketut Sadia and I Wayan Bendi.
