Strong winds and heavy waves battered Bungkulan Beach in Buleleng, damaging several food stalls and throwing boats into nearby rice fields. “The wind and waves were so powerful that they swept away my food stall,” an elderly vendor named Rajimah said. Another resident, Gusti Cakra, said that a strong gale had pommeled the area for six days, reaching its peak on Thursday night at around 10 p.m.
“The wind and waves were truly terrifying. They destroyed the food stalls along the beach, partially buried two houses with sand and inundated the paddy fields with salt water,” he said. In other villages along Buleleng’s northern coastal line, residents were seen filling sandbags against the weather. “You should stay here and see for yourself the true power of Mother Nature,” Dewa Astawa, a resident of Munduk hamlet in Anturan village, said.
