The city administration is planning to buy garbage compacting machinery to help overcome its garbage problems. Head of the Sanitation Agency, Ketut Wisada, said in a press release on Tuesday that the machinery procurement would be conducted in several phases. In the near future, the agency will procure four machines, two of which would be utilized at the Pulau Kawe dump site, with one at Pulau Seram dump and another at Kreneng dump.
Wisada said the machines would be used to compress the piles of garbage to make it more compact, thus increasing dump capacity by 50 percent. The city’s dumps are no longer able to accommodate the 2,500 cubic meters of garbage generated in the city on a daily basis. Even more trash piles up during religious celebrations. The machines are considered to be a useful solution to maximize dump site capacity, particularly because nowadays it is impossible to find vacant land to be converted into a dump site. Buleleng exceeds expected vehicle taxes.
Singaraja: Buleleng regency received Rp 122 billion (US$12.63 million) in vehicle tax revenue during 2012, higher than the amount targeted by the regency administration. Head of the technical unit at the regency’s Taxation Agency, Gusti Ketut Parwata, said Tuesday that the agency’s target for vehicle tax revenues had been Rp 104 billion. “The higher revenue was because there were around 20,000 new motorcycles last year,” he said, as quoted by Antara news agency. He added that the higher revenue reflected better economic conditions in the regency.
